Chicago chowhounds head to Texas
Two Chicago chowhounds heading to Texas next week. We're landing in Houton and driving to Corpus Christi and environs, and are just interested in great food. Dives preferred. We don't mind cork in our wine or 'interesting' waitstaff, really just want the freshest food that's offered. Love seafood, Mexican, Tex-Mex, really anything.
Thanks!

Goode Company Seafood does a fine version of Gulf Coast seafood.
I have not eaten at Top Water Grill in San Leon but it's supposed to be great for seafood.
Benno's in Galveston, 12th at the Seawall.Pico's in Houston for Mexican.
Hugo's in Houston for expensive Mexican.
Villa Arcos in Houston for great breakfast tacos. Closed Monday and after 1 or 2 pm. I don't want to call this a dive, as it would insult the owner and many fans, but it's cheap and simple (and not air conditioned in the summer). -
well bring your flavors with you because Texas has some heat..a litle heat is good for your palet. if you head to Houston we have great tex mex food, go where the locals go that's old world charm and the food you cannot get any better. El Tempi and Tampico both are excellent, Pappas resturants are okay but for the real tex mex that's the place to go. c.c. has great seafood, when we went there we did not have any tx mx food, just seafood dinners have fun but do stop for awhile in houston for great food...
