Anyone know of the best place for paella? We've always gone to Fina Estampa (in the Mission), but are looking for someplace new.

I found my seafood paella at Mochica delicious. However, it did seem more like risotto to me than the few paellas I've had before: it was cooked until pretty soft and was creamy.

It was definitely a "not what I expected, but a wonderful surprise" experience.

I think B44 is doing the best job with paella these days. In addition to the classic paellas, they serve a fantastic arros negra (seafood rice with squid ink).

Third on B44's arros negra.

For starters, I really like the Xato. And they always have good cheap cava.

I had forgotten B44! They do make a good paella, and it's much more like paella you see in other places.

I think Esperpento and Picaro do fairly good paellas, though most on this board place the two in the "cheap, but just okay" category. The paellas there aren't as good as B44, I will say.
