The paper gave it a pretty good review for some higher end items like lobster ravioli (yum!) and Kobe beef. I'm thinking of trying it out, but thought I'd check for any CH experiences first.

We had some drinks and oysters there right after they opened. Lovely bar up top, nice oyster bar downstairs. The place was pretty swanky, and the oysters were priced accordingly. But that's to be expected for nice, cold-water oysters from the Pacific NW or New England/Canada.

Actually, I can't believe this is the beginning of the third r month and we have not been back. Oysters anyone?

I too had heard many great things about Nelsons. Cant speak to the Oyster bar, but avoid the restaraunt below! Hubby and I have had two dreadful experiences (hey, we'll give anyone a second shot!). The room you're seated in echoes worse than a college dorm room, and the management staff left much to be desired. The large, obscenely drunk (and screaming) party across from us (this has happened twice) made eatting a meal much less than enjoyable. When we asked them maybe, perhaps to keep it down, we were told "we're spending more money than you, so we can be as loud as we want". Management was told of the situation but did nothing - our concerns were not even acknowledged. We left feeling like we'd had a pizza-inn atmosphere on a Kobe Beef budget.

The final word - you can get steaks and seafood with a lot less attitude somewhere else.

I'm willing to believe they're serving American-raised Wagyu beef, but considering that genuine Kobe beef is running $400-500/lb, I have serious doubts that what they're calling "Kobe beef" is actually Kobe beef.
