I thought Flying Bridge is now run by Mattisons in Sarasota!
Is this correct? Flying Bridge was very good, but don't know if it changed hands or not......

The Flying Bridge on Blackburn point is GONE. It's been sold to a condo outfit.. Say goodbye to most of the restaurants on the waterfront.

Irwin, I'm eagerly awaiting your return regarding the Flying Bridge in Osprey on Blackburn Point Rd. I'm a winter resident in the area as I suspect are you from your frequent Maine posts, and I saw the result of the development insanity last year with the closure of the Flying Bridge. I'm wondering if there is another similarly named establishment more northerly in Sarasota proper or if we are speaking of the same restaurant.

I live in Sarasota, year round. The Flying bridge on Blackburn point is the only Flying Bridge restaurant in the area. I remember going there by boat back in the early 60's and the Flying Bridge was 1 story with jalousy windows all the way around. We would eat fresh seafood caught that morning in diner chairs and tables. How bout that?! WHAT a wonderful place that was!

There is a very nice restaurant on the water in Venice called the Crows Nest if you're looking for a view and a great setting. It's similar to the Flying Bridge with the large windows and you can also arrive there by water. It's just before you get to the south jetty's.

Another real "pearl" restaurant on the coast is on the most northerly area of Longboat Key, try Moores Stone Crab restaurant for fresh Stonecrab claws which are now in season. YUM! It's on the water with docks where you can arrive by water, and watch the dolphins. Pretty awesome!

I've made reservations for the Columbia Restaurant on St. Armands for Christmas dinner. They are open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New years Day. check out:
