Shanghai Cowgirl

Okay, there seems to be so much talk of this place all the time. What is the BEST thing to order there? Also, on the website, the illustrations make the place look.. well.. trashy.. is it so?

  1. It is very much like a diner. Sure there is a bit of attitude, but I would not describe it as trashy. It is easily for all ages.

The burger has the greatest backyard flavour you can find and comes with really good fries.

The chicken breast greek salad is probably the tastiest you will find.

Ya cant go to Shanghai for the first time and not get the larger of the two burgers. Great toppings too. If you like peameal, its a must add on.

    1. Okay, where is SCG??

I need to try this burger that everyone is raving about. If I'm disappointed by it though. I know where you all live!!!!

It's on Queen, Davwud, north side just west of Portland (between Friendly Thai and Albert's Jamaican, how's that for Chowhound-friendly directions).

I personally really like their philly cheesesteak sandwich - it's greasy and lovely. The perogies are pretty good too, as is the wasabi chicken sandwich. Okay fries, and good wasabi mayonnaise.

It's in my hood so I go there every few weeks. Wouldn't necessarily cross town for it though. And the service can occasionally REALLY suck, probably because most of the wait staff seem a) inexperienced and b) hungover ;-)

I really like the geisha grill. The grilled cheese sandwiches and the liver and onions are amazing as well. I don't think I've ever had anything there that I didn't like.

A friend of mine always orders the same thing... chicken fried steak with a side of chilli frieds...

        2. mmm sounsd good.. how big is the 'bigger' of the burgers?

            sorry, can't remember if 6oz or 8oz.

But topped with peameal and carmelized onions, it is a very satisfying meal, and great value too!

mm oh god that sounds so damn good right now.. Not enough places offer peameal bacon on your hamburger, its such a GOOD idea
