What have you made lately? Get great advice

for $40 where would you eat

Zengarden Nov 4, 2006 12:12 AM

Looking for a place where I can get a mid priced meal. Am in need of a good treat after a difficult week.

- downtown location is ideal
- something other than the usual (the usual for me is pan Asian, Greek, vegetarian)
- usually love places like Foccacia

Hair of the Dog is a good bet in my book. If you're there alone, you can comfortably eat at the bar, or a quiet table. Great food, will definitely be <$40

I would fill my face at Japango with spicy makis.
      Coco Lezzones in little italy.
      Tutti Matti is pretty great.
You could probably get in and out of Brassaii fully satisfied for $40.00.
Awesome comfort food not near 40 would be Shanghai Cowgirl.

Bar menu at Trevor. Beef tartare tacos ($9), asiago mac-and-cheese ($9), nachos with braised beef cheeks, big salads (possibly on the restaurant menu, but you can order from either one), etc. Big flavours, small prices.

Terroni, Queen and Manning, Victoria and Richmond, Yonge and St. Clair. Awesome thin-crust pizzas with toppings you can really taste, great calamari salad.

Salad King, Gould, just east of Yonge. Best cheap Thai in town.

Go for an indian buffet. For about 12.00 you can eat all you want. Siddartha on queen and bathurst is great....but there are many others if you look there was a recent thread on this.

Hi pancake...I too love Siddartha, but it is actually on King at bathurst.

Have either of you tried the location on Gerrard? Is it of the same quality?

I've only ever been to the Siddhartha on Gerrard, and it's quite good.

Though, my favourite Indian buffet in Toronto is still Little India at Queen & Duncan.

                      Dinner too.

But I certainly would not have included it in this posting for a 40 treat meal after a hard week.

Great food in a cafeteria atmosphere.

I actually just tried their lunch buffet there! It's pretty good!

I might try Pony (north side of College just west of Bathurst). You'd have to be a little careful to get out for $40, but I think it's possible with the prix fixe. And if you've had a tough week I can't imagine anywhere better - they're attentive & kind. I've NEVER had an unpleasant moment there.

Or, as deelicious said, Japango. Yum.

I would probably do a meal at Dessert Trends. http://desserttrends.ca (Not a very good looking website. note to self... sell them a new website!
)The food looks great. The dessert is brilliant. (Mango Passion Tart remains my top favorite)
                  Check them out!
