Irish father in law's birthday dinner?
Where in LA would a slightly conservative Irishman want to celebrate his 57th birthday tonight? He's not very comfortable with glamour, but I have a feeling he'd like a landmark restaruant he could tell his friends back home about. Probably need to steer clear of most Asian and Latin American cuisines. Im looking to drop $50 a head for 4, max, including a bottle of wine.

Assuming he likes roast beef, I'm thinking Lawry's on La Cienega. Fogo de Chao might work as well (yes, I noted your hesitation about Latin American but this is primarily massive quantities of delicious grilled meats so the "exotic" element is minimal). Musso's is always a good choice for those who like a bit of history with their martini or scotch. I am doubtful you could keep within your price range at either Saddlepeak or PDC.
