Bon Appetit vs. Gourmet cookbooks: is there a difference?

marthadumptruck Nov 3, 2006 02:23 PM

I recently purchased the latest Gourmet Cookbook, and I love it.

I have seen the new Bon Appetit Cookbook and wonder if that is worth purchasing as well (20$ for the book plus a year of BA magazine).

Is there a major difference between the two cookbooks?

Any advice appreciated.

I have both. Gourmet (the book, unlike the mag) is far the better of the two. I was underwhelmed by the Bon Appetit book, though I have tabbed a couple of dozen recipes to consider. I should note that I consider BA better than Gourmet as a mag.

I own them both, and I agree. The Bon Appetit book looks like just a compilation of the recipes from the mag, while the Gourmet book is that and more - some of the recipes seem to have been updated or given a tweak. I've already bookmarked several recipes to try.
