A poster below asked about Italian in the South Bay, and I mentioned Paolo's in San Jose w/ the caveat that I haven't eaten there in years. Food was wonderful when I went a while back, and the webmenu looks great now. Anyone been recently or heard any news? Thanks.

It's been a good year or so since I last went to Paolo's - it's at the upper end of my usual price range. My wife, who's really into her nothern-italian heritage, has a high opinion of it - it's creative, upscale, but still italian. I think it's kinda cool that they have grappa (which I like, but which is traditionally more like 'hootch' than fine distilled liquor).

Thanks for your feedback. It is on the pricey end, but not outrageous, and my impression of the menu matches w/ what you described. Given that San Jose doesn't seem to spark tons of posts (good or bad) by hounds, I will def. keep Paolo's on my to-revisit list. Some of their cocktails sounded really good too...
