Yummy not too fancy food
Im looking for a place to take my mom for dinner next week. Everything that I know of is either really casual or too fancy (a la Myth or Jardeneire). I just want something nice, not too pretentious, and most of all delish. She has been to Sauce and Colobri before and likes them. Blue Plate? Ame?

my fave in this category is Ristorante Milano. It's fairly casual (more so than Rue St Jacques and Luella and Zuni) but I think it's casual in a good way (i.e. very nice looking place, nothing sloppy or under-done about it). The service is fantastic, and the menu is equally delicious - very authentic italian (no chicken parm). it's quaint, charming, small, and unpretentious.
it's on Pacific between Hyde and Larkin.

Luella is outstanding, a great neighborhood restaurant at Hyde and Green. Great pork, wonderful desserts, not expensive, good wine list.
.
Rue Saint Jacque is a little French bistro on Jackson that is also very good, not expensive and casual. Have had great cassolet, rabbit and rack of lamb there.Ame is very upscale and expensive.
