Good lobster dinner in Monmouth County?
My 87 year old mother in law is requesting we all take her for a lobster dinner for her birthday (this Saturday). I would love to hear your recommendations. We do not have to pinch pennies for this event. Thanks very much.

I like the lobster dish I had at Whisper's in Spring Lake this past summer. It was a pound and a half lobster served out of the shell, in a spring roll basket, with spinach and mashed potatoes. Also, placed in the basket, under the lobster was a jumbo lump crabcake. It was all topped with a safron butter sauce - EXCELLENT! It was a nightly special, but our waiter told us that it is almost always available.

Though I suspect you're looking for traditional whole lobster, just in case you have something else in mind, the cuisine at Nichols is superb, and there is lobster on the menu. Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion.

re: bookpro
bookpro, I'm a huge fan of Nicholas. We have celebrated a number of birthdays there in the formal dining room. But we also enjoy sitting at the bar and composing our own individual tastings from the small plates menu. The bar room is a very comfortable place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink.
If your mother-in-law agrees to go to Nicholas and you are able to get a reservation for Saturday (could be difficult), tell them it's her birthday and they'll put a candle on her dessert and gift her with a little box of sweets.
Happy Birthday to your mother-in-law and Bon Appetit!
