Need help on picking a restaurant
Hey fellow 'hounders,
Based on your previous experiences, where should I go with a friend to a French restaurant? Here's the following choices I have to pick (they're not my choices but at least I'm not paying for it):
Thanks in advance for your advice!
It's not on your list but some of the best French food I've ever had was 2 weeks ago at LCB Brasserie Rachou (the more casual new incarnation of La Cote Basque). Cassoulet had a wonderful depth of flavor yet tasted "light" (in the "actually highly caloric" way that good puff pastry and croissants taste light). Likewise with the pate appetizer; it carried a rich flavor but did not weight us down. The chocolate souffle was really a textbook example of a great souffle.
I just reread your post and noticed that you have to choose from the above post. Haven't been to any of them. But if you love classic French food do go to LCB. It acheives that harmony of flavors that I always seek when I open up Mastering the Art of French Cooking and try it myself.
I would definitely eliminate Madison Bistro because I found the food to be mediocre.
L'Absinthe has delicious food and wonderful ambiance. A little on the pricey side, but worth it.
I have not been to the others, but here's an Aug.'06 thread on Meli Melo: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/...
