Petaluma greats???

I have a foodie friend who just moved to Petaluma. Any great restaurants to recommend?

Not a restaurant, but Della Fattoria bread is out of this world amazing! We had some at Cyrus and loved it so that we asked to take some back to the hotel for breakfast the next day. Lucky us, we discovered that they also sell at the Ferry Building Market. Oh the joy. Best bread in the US, we thought, or at least on par with Bouley's amazing country wheaty loaf in Tribeca and Berkshire Baking Co in Housatonic, MA.

My favorite restaurant in Petaluma is Cafe Zazzle. Unique cuisine and great prices. They also recently started serving breakfast on weekends, which is nice because Tea Room (my fave brunch spot) often gets too crowded.

I forgot - Cafe Zazzle is fun and friendly (on Kentucky) and the food is bright and tasty.

For lunch, I've liked Water Street Bistro for a number of years. Sort of a cross between a deli and cafe, with food that's much better than you might expect (owner/chef has very good credentials).

            Water Street Bistro
            (faces Water Street)
            100 Petaluma Blvd. N., Suite 106
            at Western Avenue
            Petaluma

            Closed Tuesday.

Cucina is Excellent. Sea is the best Thai place in town. Zebulon's is gone, new owner plans ranchero music. Not ahuge fan of De Schmire but I'm in the minority on that one. For great middle eastern food go up the road to Pita Cafe in Rohnert Park.

I've eaten at Dempsey's Alehouse a couple times, and the food has been very good. And good housemade beer, also.

Cucina Paradiso - my favorite Italian
Sooze Wine Bar (the food is really good too)
Le Bistro (haven't been there in ages, but it was great then)
Central Market (emphasis on slow food, with New Orleans style)
Sugo (recent rave from my daughter)
                  Bricks (good, thin-crust pizza)
De Schmire (lots of food, but choose carefully)

That should keep your friend busy for a while. If you want more particulars, let me know.

                    Is Zebulon still around?
It's a live jazz lounge. Just some appetizers on the menu, but they have fun cocktails and good beer.

No, Zebulon's turned into Soho, which also closed its doors last week, I think. I think a Mexican-oriented place is going to open up there. I didn't know that Zebulon's had appetizers; I always went for the unfiltered saketini.
