Anyone sent their gift baskets before? Any recommendations? I was interested in the coffee/rugelach one ...

  1. I haven't. Don't know if you are interested, but the Basket Place in the Chelsea Market makes great baskets. They use the food and beverage from all over the market to fill them up.

    1. I have and love to send gifts from Zabars. Whem I lived in LA, my family would send them to me as care packages.

I love their coffee, freshly ground in-store or beans... great pricing and variety.

They take care to package well and are always well received!

      1. Not cheap, but top quality.

        1. I know nothing about their gift baske, but (regarding the coffee/rugelach option you presented) I think the Zabar's rugelach are among the best baked goods on the planet! They must cram as much cream cheese into their dough as the French cram butter into puff pastry. It's basically the only food they sell that brings me up there from Brooklyn (I can get better smoked fish at Russ & Daughters, nearer me).

However I usually finish the first rugelach at the checkout counter, the fourth at Columbus Ave. and the eigth somewhere in Central Park. So I can't vouch for how long they'll keep their freshness.

Also make sure it's the rugelach they bake fresh there. They also sell packaged rugelach that don't come remotely close.
