Review North 55

We just happened onto North 55 while shopping Friday afternoon on St Laurent. Menu looked interesting, wine was sold "at cost" and the decor looked inviting. No problem with a reservation. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. My highlight was a main of Kangaroo. I have not had it before so have nothing to compare it with. But, I would say it is a very lean meat....very much like beef, a little blander than beef. My was cooked med. rare and served with a very rich sauce. This restaurant is fairly new and I think they are still working on some of their dishes. For example, we ordered a creme brulee to share for dessert and it was inedible. The custard had not set. Our very honest waiter informed us that the desserts were awful there and that they were working on getting another pastry chef. The service was a little spotty. There were three waiters who served the whole room. The wine at cost is a fabulous idea. You choose your bottle from a mini cellar and you are charged SAQ price plus a $3.00 corkage. We are from out-of-town but will try North 55 again in the near future.

St Laurent Blvd between Ratchel and Mont Royal.

It's actually right on the southwest corner of Mont-Royal and St-Laurent, in the space formerly occupied by Savannah. Unless they've changed the name since opening, I believe it's called 55°.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mr F.

Any idea what happened to the original head chef of Savannah(he was also the part-owner)? He had left after a year or two, to start on a new restaurant project of his own.

He's now in charge of The New England Culinary Institute.

      2. Do they have a website? Is it very expensive?
