This is not meant to be a snobby criticism from an anonymous foodie, just a simple question. Who is she? As in, does she have credentials, has she written books, did she go to culinary school. Most of the people on Food Network, while I don't watch their programs, I can understand how they got there, not this one.

"In 1992, after attending the University of Wisconsin, Sandra created and patented one of the highest-selling home decorating lines ever invented. This incredible success led Sandra to expand her vision into the gardening category, where she created many popular and foolproof products for Target and Wal-Mart stores."

Sort of like Nov. Bon Appetite suggesting one do a Semi-Ho made thanksgiving? Buy the pre-roasted turkey? A major turn off. Maybe in some of the larger metro areas you might be able to find an acceptable pre-roasted turkey, I still wonder.

wait, wait, Bon Appetite (sic) suggested "Semi-Ho made" verbatim, or just the preroasted turkey?

Some friends of mine and I had our favorite BBQ joint (Harold's in Abilene TX) smoke us a turkey last year, and it just didn't turn out well. Besides, have we forgotten that half the reward is the journey? What else are we gonna do with Thanksgiving morning? I guess we'll just sit around sipping cranberry muddles in cashmere watching our Wolf range turn into a pot holder for a take-out thanksgiving.

I wasn't going to say a word, but now I feel I have to! Last year for Thanksgiving, we were going to visit my husband's ailing grandmother three hours away. We both worked until 7 pm on Wednesday and grandma wanted to eat at 11 am the next day... there was nothing to be done except order Thanksgiving dinner from a local restaurant and bring it with us. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, and you know what... everyone said it was the best turkey they'd ever had!! And I don't consider myself a Semi-Ho, thank you very much!

I don't object to pre-ordering a roasted turkey, especially in your situation last year, Katie. What I object to is Bon Appetit (a COOKING magazine!), suggesting to do so. It just seems the antithesis of what the magazine is supposed to be about!

She attended for like 3 days or something and when it came to handling real food, she got tired of that "monkey business" and left. Do not be fooled, she has NO classical training.

As I understand it, her ex-husband funded her first few seasons, via Miramax. Her cookbooks are in no small part, collections of recipes from Kraft and Campbells and McCormick. SHe has endorsements from a number of food product manufacturers, who she remembers with thoughtful "recommendations" in most all of her recipes.

She is, first and foremost, a brand.

I believe this year she cooks Tgiving turkey in a crockpot, as her slow cooker book is now out.
