Crepe A Go-Go - a lovely treat

Walking through Yorkville on (yet another drizzly) Saturday afternoon, I stopped in at the recently opened Crepes A Go-Go on Yorkville by Yonge. A decent selection of sweet and savoury crepes were on offer - feeling a bit peckish, I opted for the mozzarella and raspberry jam crepe. It was scrumptious - a lovely balance of flavours between the salty mozzarella and the sweet jam, warm and melty - the perfect treat on a rainy afternoon. I watched a number of the other crepes being made - spinach, mushroom, swiss and egg looked good as did the dark chocolate, banana and jam. Prices range from $5-$9, I think, not cheap but really tasty and filling. Looking forward to going back again - soon!

I love the combinations a go go has. Very inventive. I have a been going there forever. In the last few months, II feel as if the crepes are often poorly made though. Dry, brittle and riddled with tiny holes displaying the fact they are very overcooked. I think the staff are young untrained and unequipped to deal with high volume? I really like their savoury crepes. Cafe crepe makes hearty desert crepes that are twice as big with loads of filling. They are good if you like me like them chewy not crispy.

I tried the nutella and banana one a month back and was not impressed - gummy texture, mushy, but friends assured must have been an off day. I tried again with a friend one night last week and had the mozza/strawberry combo and again it did not taste good at all (and it was not premade - I hope). The owner is a lovely woman but sadly her crepes suck. Personally no crepes in Toronto taste anything like the ones in europe. Must be the water?

Their website doesn't show the new location yet. It's opposite the Metro Library and across from the Cookbook store.

Isn't there a location on Church, just north of Wellesley too? East side?

No, it's another crepe place, but it's totally non-French.

Hi - I don't know the exact address but it's on the north side of Yorkville, a couple of doors west of Yonge. It's in the bottom of the condo building there.

You can sit at one of the few tables or stools or take the crepe to go-go (sorry, couldn't resist!) - I get the sense that they are still settling into the new space and will have it better set up for dining in sometime in the near future.

The address is 18 Yorkville Avenue - at the northwest corner of Yonge/Yorkville. I went there for lunch today and it was fabulous!
I had the TomTom Crepe (Smoked salmon, sour cream, tomatoes, scrambled eggs, dill). That didn't fill me up, so I ate the Brie & Raspberry Crepe for "dessert". Both were delicious. The apple cider was also really refreshing, although the cup was miniscule. The service was extremely warm and friendly. I would recommend this delightful little cafe to anyone. Be warned that there was a lineup out the door around 12:45, so the earlier you can go, the better.

The one at Yorkville has a few tables inside. Seats maybe 10 persons.

Is it a sit-down restaurant or just takeout?

                  Cheers!

i had the brie and strawberry jam crepe yesterday at crepes agogo and it was very good!

i must admit though that because they've gotten a bit busier, they precook some of their crepes which i think takes away a little bit from the texture. when they were still at bloor and bedford and they weren't as busy, they would make your crepe as you ordered, which i think matters.

i'm sure the crepes they use now haven't been sitting around all day but i found them to bit a bit tougher than when i used to have them at the old location. but, all-in-all, i think still the best crepe place in TO! they hav excellent cappucino too!

Too bad about them pre-cooking some of the crepes (they were all freshly made when I was there) - that would diminish the texture. I personally find it almost hypnotic to watch them pour the batter and then spread it around with the little paddle. Good to know the coffee is good too.

Hi peppermint pate. I love crepes, order them occasionally with hopeful anticipation that they'll be great, and am always disappointed. This is because I'm always comparing them to the crepes I enjoyed growing up, at the various Brittany-style creperies in and around Montreal and the Laurentians, notably "A La Crepe Bretonne."

These crepes were as thin as could be, crisp around the edges, cooked to a deep brown. Not the thick, soggy, under-cooked crepes I've come to expect in the Rest of Canada. Quebec really is a distinct society, food-wise anyway. Pity that the food and cooking expertise of Quebec has not rubbed off on the majority of dining establishments in the ROC.

I hope I don't get blasted for this comment. Yes, there are fabulous restaurants in Toronto and the ROC. But there are more, proportionally, in Quebec.

Well, I won't engage you in a Quebec vs. Rest of Canada debate -suffice to say I think there's great chow to be had throughout the country but as for these crepes, you should give them a try. They were definitely thin and a bit crispy on the edges (though perhaps not as much as you may like - you could ask them to make them a bit more well done?). I wouldn't classify myself as a crepe afficionado but they certainly compared favourably to the crepes I've enjoyed in both Quebec City and France.

Well, even the crepes that are sold on the streets of Paris are not "crepes Bretonne". Even when I was in Brittany, you have regular crepes and Bretonne style to choose from. I think that's an unfair comparison.

I was at Crepes a-go-go once, and have two minor nitpicks. I had the "nicoise classique". A classical nicoise salad should have tuna, olives, olive oil, and hard boiled egg. The egg is not in the "classique" version but in the more expensive "extra" version, and they also contain mozzarella, which is not in a real nicoise salad. So I find it not reallly "classique". But it was delicious none the less.

The other problem is the layout. The menu is posted just inside the door, so people either bunched around the door trying to read the menu, thus blocking the way, or just walk in and ask what is available. Also there was only one person taking the order, working the cashier and doing the drinks, while 3 people are working on crepes. If the person have to then explain what is availble, the lineup goes out the door. I think they need a Restaurent Makeover.
