Food options in T & T?

Are there any restaurants I should look out for on my trip to Trinidad and Tobago?

For local fusion upscale dining in the Port of Spain area I highly recommend Veni Mange (venimange.com) and Battimamzelle (coblentzinn.com) .

I agree about Veni Mange--but also the local food shops make lovely local food--the fish is divine-from T&T-the cou cou-corn soup-dumplings and saltfish and don 't forget the tasty doubles and fresh coconut water from around the Savannah--

Veni Mange may have had its days but the food is mediocre. Ate there this week. Had the chip-chip cocktail which is a bowl filled with tiny clam like flesh suspended in a tomato ketchupy/cocktail sauce. Dumplings that came with the oxtail stew were not cooked all through so it was doughy in the middle. The oxtail itself was completely oily - given there is some fat - but swimming in fat is repulsive.
Fish stew was ok but the flat dumplings it came with lacked flavor.

Battimamzelle is supposed to have excellent food but since Khalid Mohammed no longer works there, I cannot vouch for the food quality.

For quality food, I would reccommend the cheapy stuff such as doubles and roti stands and the burger stands. There is no point wasting money for less than mediocre in these supposedly 'top' restaurants in TnT.

In Plymouth, Tobago--the restaurant next to the Gas Station has beautiful lunches for about $3.50 USD-flying fish and grouper(depending on the day because the fish is freshly caught)-with peas and rice-also the restaurant down the main road has lovely food ($4 USD)-and thirdly a small bar/restaurant a little further down the road and to the left-best fish and chips and a nice beer or vodka-ENJOY-(similarily priced) Love Tobago--if you need directions-just ask a local

In POS, I suggest Roti at Dobson's (look for the orange building) on Maraval Road in St. Clair/Newtown. A scrumptious blend of flavors when combined with a cold, sweet sorrel. The nearby Hott shop is good, too.
Late night snacks of street food in St. James are a local delight.
Any time you are thirsty, you might enjoy a fresh coconut. The vendor will chop off the top so you can enjoy the milk fresh, & then he will split it so the meat can be eaten, a chip of the coconut serving as a spoon. Very refreshing.
In Maracas Bay, the Shark and Bake at Richards (under the red tent) is yummy.
The only upscale food I enjoyed was in Arno's Vale on Tobago. They have a beautiful and well run establishment there.
          Enjoy
