Little Owl Brunch Report
My wife and I finally went to Little Owl for brunch and were quite impressed. We each had "Poached Eggs," which, I must say, was the single best interpretation of eggs benedict I've ever tasted. It's served on "sausage buns" - amazing sausage filled buns that are truly delicious, with sauteed greens and perfectly cooked eggs and hollandaise. It's sort of a twist on both Benedict and Florentine. Awesome!
We split the blueberry corn cakes, which were also outstanding and served with a warm vanilla syrup. These two dishes together were an impressive one-two punch.
Each getting a dish and splitting a third turned out to be a good decision as the portions are not huge. The egg dishes don't come with anything else - potatoes, bacon, fruit, etc cost extra. The check adds up quick.
My only criticisms are that the place was rather cold. Too chilly a day for a restaurant to not be warm and cozy. Also, I found the coffee to be sub-par. Overall, though, really liked it and will be back often.
My gf and I went to little owl for brunch not too long ago and we both thought it was completly uninspired. I had the corn packakes and she had the poached eggs. I honestly did not enjoy either dish, the sausage biscut was "ok" but really like the eggs benedict at Schillers or Clinton St. alot better. I also thought it was commpletly over priced for what you got. Maybe we were there on an off day but I wouldn't go back.
I must respectfully disagree. I thought both those dishes were in fact quite inspired. I will be back regularly. I would say that Clinton St Bakery is a better bargain since you get more of a complete meal. As I said the check can add up at L.O. once you start adding sides, but I was impressed. But hey, it's all subjective!
Well, luckily we got there 10 mins before 11am and there were already about 15 others waiting for the doors to open. We got in as soon as the doors opened but anyone who came even 10 mins later were on a wait. How long the wait got, I have no idea. I recommend getting there before they open. The place is very small.
