Seitan in NY?

I have been searching for seitan in NY. I figured, given Manhattan it would be easy...but no such luck. Does anyone know where I can purchase? Please help!

  1. I've seen it in Whole Foods near Columbus Circle. Near the tofu and fresh noodles.

      Hey Gtrekker2003,

Thanks for the reply. I telephoned Whole Foods earlier in the week and they stated that they are not currently carrying it. I will post under cravings and see if anyone else knows.

      Thanks again.

Sorry about that Shana. It's strange as I just saw it at Whole Foods-Columbus Circle a couple weeks ago and was wondering how one cooks it up etc. I've only eaten it at Gobo before. Good luck on your search! :)

          Hi gtrekker,

That's soooooo sweet. It's cool that you responded back.

    2. you might want to try 'healthy pleasures' or 'garden of eden,' and i'd also suggest calling the other 'whole foods' in chelsea. they don't stock the same items in all their stores.

i moved away years ago, but i remember buying seitan at a little health food store on third avenue between 34th & 35th when i lived in murray hill. i think it was called 'ultra natural.' the place was pretty dingy & grimy so i tried to avoid their fresh stuff & produce, but it was fine for packaged foods.

      good luck!

      1. LifeThyme might have it.

Which is seitan, the wheat gluten stuff? You can find wheat gluten products in many Chinese groceries, though it's not likely to be called seitan.

Lifethyme definitely has it - I bought some last week.

You might also check at Health Nuts on the UWS.

        2. At least 2 of the Healthy Pleasures stores shut down, just for the record. I've definitely bought it in Whole Foods, but if they say they don't have it, Earthmatters on Ludlow Street in the Lower East Side is usually reliable. Lifethyme too, of course.

          1. Thanks to everyone that hit me up. The information was really useful, I was able to look up some of the stores. I will begin my hunt.

            Thanks again!!!!!
