Wat Buddhathai (Elmhurst)

I have marked on a calendar that the Royal Katin celebration at Wat Buddhathai is taking place today (Sunday). I can't find any info on it though. Anyone have details on whether I'm right about the date? Worth attending?

  1. I went a few years ago. It's definitely worth a visit:

    1. I went by the temple today. Royal Katin is on November 5, starting at 9am.

do you happen to know how late it continues until?

      2. No idea. According to Peter's link above, it went until 2pm last year. Call em up 718-803-9881.

        1. This year's Royal Katin celebration will take place on Sunday, November 18, beginning at 9:00 and continuing till early afternoon, a gentleman from the temple told me today.

I just got back from the Royal Katin festival. Wow, it was quite a feast. At 11:30a, despite the rain and chill, the outdoor tents were absolutely packed with people and trays of food. Shocked by how much food there was, I forgot to count the number of dishes offered. I would guess at least 30; most of it was cooked and donated by local Thai restaurants. Everything was good, and some dishes were exceptional. Definitely one the highlights of the year. Next year, go early, as things were already winding down by 12:30p.

              2. It's that time of year again for the Royal Katin celebration.
I recall seeing November 1 as the date on Eating in Translation.
                Any more info?

I've posted it, once more with feeling, in my weekly events roundup:

Apart from the date, which I saw on a flyer during a visit to the temple itself and confirmed with several lay visitors who spoke English, I know no more.

Unfortunately, I was busy eating the desserts rather than photographing them. I did manage a few seconds of restraint to shoot one of the overloaded plate before digging in.

Wow, the food this year looks amazing! I went once a couple of years ago and didn't find the food to be so great--it looked nothing like this. Or maybe I went to a different temple--I think it was in Woodside. Are there two? I don't know my queens neighborhoods that well.
At any rate, I guess I will have to check it out next year.
