WHen I was a high school student (not that long ago) the cool kids with cars used to high-tail it down bathurst to steves... for what, I don't know.

Having lived in the area for most of my life, I have yet to step foot in steves. Is it any good??? My perception has always been that it's diner food for people who can afford much better. Am I mistaken?

My grandparents lived on the same street that ends at Bathurst. As a result, I've gone past there more times than you can shake a stick at. To the best of my knowledge from people I work with, who worked in the area, Steve's WAS great. Mostly for breakfast, but has changed hands a few times. I guess it survives on reputation.
In 40 years, I've never gone in.

Then again, I can't figure out why people run to United Bakers, either.

I was in there once about 5 years ago, just because I'd heard some people talking about it (I grew up in Montreal, not Toronto). Lousy pancakes, lousy Greek salad...last time there.

But there were a few familiar faces there, surprising, actually. Yes, you're right, rbc, "it's diner food for people who can afford much better." Go figure.
