Anyone been to Cru lately?

ManhattanLawyer Oct 28, 2006 10:04 PM

Hello all, I've been interested in checking out Cru for some time although I have yet to get there. A search on these boards revealed that there haven't been any reviews for several months now, so I'm interested to see whether any of you have been lately.

Thoughts? Recommendations on what to order?

I am taking my husband there on Thursday night for a big birthday and our last hurrah before the birth of our first baby. I am interested in a more detailed, informative review from you, especially in light of the overwhelmingly positive reviews of Cru on CH.

Here's my review from earlier this month:

I think with the overhaul of this site, the searching just isnt perfect yet, or I havent figured it out. It took me a bit of effort to find my review for you from a few weeks ago. I wonder if there's a way that I'm missing of getting them in order of most recent when you search on a word?

Anyway, we loved Cru and I probably mention it too often on CH now as it was so recent and so wonderfully enjoyable. In my personal opinion there was nothing overrated about it....service, food, wine list, relaxed formality of the dining room, etc.

Thanks for reminding me of your review, it was one of the reasons I opted for Cru in the first place...

BTW: being 8 1/2 months pregnant, is there a particular table or area I should request for comfort sake when I confirm or is it all basically the same. I would appreciate a bit of insight...

        I will report back...thanks!

I remember there being some banquette tables along the walls that would probably be more comfortable for you than the tables in traffic's path down the center of the room.

you can ask on the site talk board, but its simple to sort your search results by date, there option is given at the top of the results page.

          Hey Everyone,
I can't find my review from last year. I must not be searching properly either. Plus, I'm not that good with computers, I'm just a good eater. : )

Anyway, my girlfriend and I went to Cru after a few underwhelming meals at Le Bernardin, Bouloud, Nobu, etc. In short we were absolutely blown away. We were comped a round of Champagne as an anniversary present and the service was amazing througout.

There are stunning, elegant dishes to be had. I remember raw sweet shrimp with juniper berries, gin, and black truffle. But there are also hearty, dishes that actually fill you up (surprise surprise!) I remember a Spanish lamb dish as well as a great fresh pasta with sweet potato. We opted for the wine pairing so the details of the meal have become a little hazy.

I think Cru is actually underrated. Our dinner there was the best I've ever had in NYC yet I rarely see it listed among the best. Oh well. I hope you enjoy and please report back!

We just went on Saturday (the day you posted this, actually) and really liked it. We had some issues with a logorrheic waiter and some overcooked grouper, but apart from those two problems, the meal was excellent.

That wine list is so fantastic, with bottles in just about any price range. We got a 1989 Rhone wine for about $70. Not bad at all.
