Halloween dinner with costumes - UES

Hi All,

My boyfriend and I are getting together with another couple for dinner before a halloween party that we will all be attending on the Upper East Side. I'm not at all familiar with the neighborhood, but we're looking for a place that's not too frat-partyish (in our late 20's), but somewhere that showing up in very low-key costumes wouldn't be frowned upon.

All suggestions welcome and we have no culinary restrictions.

  1. Not sure what you have in mind, but there are plenty of diners on the UES (Viand is my favorite, on 2nd & 86th) that are filled with party people on Halloween. Jackson Hole and 2 Brother Jimmy's locations also come to mind as places I'd feel comfortable dining in a costume.

Other than that, there are plenty of Irish bars with decent food where you'd fit in just fine, like Fiona's on 1st and 87th.

Also Nick's for pizza/family style Italian (2nd and 94th) might be low key enough.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the recommendations, Tipsy. Any other ideas for perhaps a bit nicer places, that would still be ok with our attire? Nothing fancy, of course, but I'm aiming for fairly decent food.

I suppose Mexican is laid back enough for how you'll be dressed. Arriba Arriba on 3rd near 83rd is very good and not too expensive. Canyon Road on 1st and 76th is also very good, though maybe a bit fancier and more spendy.

Also, Pio Pio on 1st and 91st has FANTASTIC Peruvian chicken. It's very inexpensive but it's tiny and there is often a wait.
