Heading up to Truckee...any good stops along I-80

RenoRed Oct 25, 2006 05:16 PM

Getting tired of fast food! Willing to take a *short* detour to get good chow off of I-80 Any hidden gems out there? We like pretty much anything. Thanks, Chowhounds!

I may have missed your visit, but just in case...Plutos in the Roseville Galleria, right off 80 on Highway 65. Yum!

we like Katrina's in 'north Auburn' for breakfast and lunch. 1 block north of 80 on Hiway 49, on the right. Closed Mondays I believe. Daily specials are great, huge menu. Park down the street at the shopping center.

from what area are you starting?

In downtown Davis, I ate at Little Prague a few weeks ago and had a nice meal. Bohemian/German/Czech style food. JanetofReno can tell you a great tamale place, but I can't remember the directions.

The tamale place, Lupita's, is right across the street from Jalisco Tacos, see my post above and then look at the thread buried in that post. Janet says the tamales are best in the am, IIRC, so would be a good breakfast stop. You can snack at Jalisco, then get some tamales to go from Lupitas....

If you can make it to Auburn, check out Ikeda's Tasty Burgers. They have good burgers and sandwiches and also a great market with fresh produce, meats, oh yeah and don't forget the homemade pies. They are right off the freeway at
13500 Lincoln Way Looks like they are off the Forest Hill exit. Here is a link to the map: http://www.ikedas.com/auburn.htm

For reasons I won't go into here, I've always had a soft spot for Ikeda's, but avoid the ostrich burgers...I've tried them twice, and been disappointed both times. They were dry, and kind of tough, too. The regular burgers are good, and the pies are, too.

Downtown Davis has a number of options. There's been a couple of threads on Davis.

Mr. Taco is right off I-80 and serves up cooked to order Mexican food in huge portions. Service is friendly too. Highly recommended. Cheap.

Take the Dixon Ave. exit - it's in a dirt lot across from Carls Jr.

Just to confuse matters, I think Dixon actually does belong on the SF Board (Solano County)...but my favorite stop there is Jalisco Tacos. Here is my most recent report:
