Looking for venue ideas where a good place to have a 30th birthday party would be. Cost is somewhat of an issue (I'd like to try and stick under $1200) for about 12-15 people. Any thoughts?

you posted this same querry earlier this month. Did none of those suggestions work for you? What exactly do you mean by 'venue ideas' then? Are you looking for a drink/food packages at a bar? Catering ideas for a specific location?

Sorry, I was wondering if any newbies would have any thoughts/ideas. The suggestion of Tizi Melloul is excellent, but was just curious if there were any other options people have experienced that they enjoyed. I was interested in drink/food packages and preferably in an intimate setting (not a bar). Thanks for your help.

I love the upstairs lounge of Mirai sushi for parties. They have fantastic food, but also the lounge is pretty intimate and yet festive.

Try contacting Red Door and see what they could offer you for the amount and people. Chef Chen is very good.

I'm guessing that normalheightsfoodie is referring to Red Light, on Randolph St., since they mentioned Chef Chen. Check out Timo, on the corner of Grand & Halsted. Ask Chef John Bubala what he could do for you. Tell him Peter sent you. Just attended a superb wedding reception there. Very excellent food & drink, intimate yet not stuffy in the least.

One of my favorite places for a wonderful time is Le Lan. Great food, service & wine. We are never dissapointed. We also love Blackbird & Naha.

I had my 30th birthday at La Donna in Andersonville. They gave us the upstairs room and the service was excellent. Their wonderful Italian Food was served family style so everyone was encouraged to mix and mingle. It was definitely in your budget range. I really had a great birthday there.

My experience with La Donna is that their food is so so...although it's been a few years.

Greek Islands, Cafe Iberico, Timo, or La Scarola would be great for a 30th B-day party.

Tsuki (Japanese) has a private room upstairs with its own bar. The food there is excellent and depending what you order, reasonable. I got a tour of that room with the owners one night and it looked like a great place for your sized group... can mill around and drink until everyone shows up.

I would have to recommend Caro Mio at 1827 W. Wilson. You can visit their website here for the full menu: http://www.caromiochicago.com/

I went here for a friend's birthday and we had a great time, the food is awesome, and here's the best part: BYOB! We all brought a bottle of wine and things to make martinis and it was a blast. I loved it so much my boyfriend took me there for my birthday. It is a small place, dark-ish, nice ambiance with lots of plants and good service. I have eaten a LOT of Italian, and I thought this place was definitely above average. Lots of parking in the area as well.
