cheap good Italian in North Beach?

sauceface Oct 24, 2006 11:27 PM

I know you all don't overwhelmingly love the Italian places in North Beach, but I'll ask anyway--

favorite cheap Italian (especially pasta) places?

If you don't answer me I'm going to Pasta Pomodoro.

If you're looking for pasta, this recent thread with a report back on Caffe Puccini may help -

My favorite is Panta Rei. Really good fresh pasta. Prices are very reasonable. I love the green pasta with duck in pink sauce ($11.95).

Ristorante Franchino on Columbus is fantastic. Their special penne pasta with veal and chicken is pure bliss and Franchino and his wife add charm to great food.

L'Osteria del Forno is good and cheap, but not a place for pasta.

I agree with you, but their baked pasta isn't bad at all. Just not primarily a "pasta" place, and that is the only pasta choice.

              Right, that's what I meant.

bocce cafe... they have live music on fri and sat nights, not to mention valet parking. I remember their seafood canneloni being great.
