I am mourning the demise of the second avenue deli...especially now that I am sick! Does anyone know where I can get good matzo ball soup? It has to be chicken stock based, so B & H is out.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I've not had the matzo ball soup at Sarge's, but I recall posts by Hounds indicating that it's good.

yes, they'll deliver anywhere and anything and for 24 hours a day. i've ordered a hot dog and fries and soup at 4 am (which came out to about $5) and it was at my door in 10 minutes.

I agree with you about anywhere and anything 24/7 but all that for $5 at Sarge's? No way :-)

In my experience, that would come to easily above $10 plus tax and tip... Still a deal in my book!

you're right. hot dog and fries for $5 or just soup for about $4. great deal either way. id also suggest the super soup which is a giant pot of matzoh ball soup with chicken, veggies and a kreplach.

by the way, of all the fries i've ever had delivered, sarge's, for some reason, tastes the best. always hot and still crispy and packed in a paper bag when they arrive.

You are sooo right...not only are they great in their own right, like old fashioned nathan's fries, but they are the ONLY ones we ever found that got delivered hot and crispy like that... and their hotdogs, yum! I do agree on their super soup!

I moved out of the city recently (we are pregnant) but I so miss Sarge's... we drove around last night after I picked up my hubby at the train and all I wanted was a pastrami on rye and matzo ball soup. LOL

concur re Sarge's but try the Souper Soup (or is it Super Soup?). It's noodles, matzo ball and kreplach combined in a large container of broth. It cures whatever ails me.
