I'd say it's: very good to excellent, non-romantic, noisy, comfortable, and memorable.
Food is excellent. Had the best tomato salad (Chino farms, of course) ever from there. (even beat out George's).
Service: my experience was they were very inattentive and slow. For the price paid, I expect better.

I've had 3 meals there. The first during restaurant week was fabulous. The second was a little off, but still quite good. The third was great again. I like this place for its sometimes surprising combines, and the desserts can't be beat. I second the recommendation on the panna cotta; it is usually accompanied by a surprising combination of candied fruits or vegetables (like fennel). Check out the review at the San Diego Reader online for more info and talk about specific dishes. I plan on going again in November to check out the fall menu.

I wouldn't call it faboulous, but it is very good. No, make that very, very good, but it can have off nights. The space is noisy, very noisy, when it's full, which would kind of nix the "romantic" connotation. The bar is small and somewhat trendy.
It's definitely not high-brow, it is comfortable. The panna cotta for dessert is transcendent. Service can be unattentive and at times lacks professionalism.
They do breakfast really well. good coffee, relaxed atmosphere and I've had better service at breakfast than at dinner.
