looking for an intimate restaurant with great food

Most of my restaurant knowledge is at the high-end but I don't want to spend $300 bucks for this particular occasion. I'd like to keep it under $200 with wine and tip.

What I'm looking for is a restaurant with a creative menu, intimate yet casual atmosphere, and tables that aren't so close together that you can't have a private conversation. It's for a week-night so reservations shouldn't be too hard for most places.

Thanks.

  1. Last time I was at Area on Amherst (about a year or so ago) I thought the food & ambiance were suitable to what you are looking for.

    1. Brunoise seems to be a perfect fit.

La colombe on Duluth street has good food, good service and a nice ambiance. It's a BYOB and you do need to make reservations.
