Babette's Cafe (Atlanta) review
I'm not a writer, so bear with me. Wife and I had dinner at Babette's in Atlanta on Saturday night. Holy crap, it was good!
Love the space. We were at a corner table in the large room. I feared noise would be an issue, but no problem at all. Seated immediately, though we were early for our ressie. Service was perfect. Not rushed, but not ignored.
Drinks and apps - she had the Mojito (it was great) and I my usual Manhattan with Maker's, also excellent. We had the Very Small Plates of potato chips with gorgonzola and the gnocchi with goat cheese. Both were perfect, especially the goat cheese. Too often goat cheese tastes like a goat smells to me, but this was very good.
She had the squash soup with mushrooms and I had the bean soup, both the tasting sizes. Again, both very good. I liked the squash best.
For the entree my wife had the steak with gorgonzola sauce and that is one killer dish! Cooked perfectly and the sauce is one of the best compliments to a steak I have ever tasted. I don't even remember her sides because that steak was so good.
I had the duck, mainly because duck is such a pain to cook at home. Perfectly cooked with crackly skin and that great dark meat. The wild rice was only so-so, but did nothing to take away from what was a great dish.
We shared the chocolate bread pudding with homemade banana ice cream. Glad we shared it because we had enough trouble getting up and walking out as it was. The ice cream was just superior.
Great food, great service, great space and nice people. Our server said she has been there for over ten years. I was very surprised at how inexpensive it was, too.
