Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the Tristate Area

OK inexpensive BBQ in Summit, NY

I tried The Red Barn Grill and Tavern (518-287-1122)this last week. It has been open since May. I had their sampler platter - brisket, pulled pork and ribs for 10.95. It was very generous with 3 ribs, and a mound of both the brisket and pulled pork. It comes with vegetables which were done well. It also comes with various types of potatoes, including sweet potatoe fries, and a small salad bar - mostly greens, rolls and appropriate dressings. They say they do a prime rib special on weekends that always needs reservations.

Now to the chow! The Q was good but not great (5 on 10; I consider Dinosaur BBQ 8 on 10 for upstate comparisons). The sauce was bland and there was none on the side. I sat at the bar and although there were only a few people, the service was oh so slow. This place has a lot of unrealized potential. I would definitely go back again both for the Q and to try other things. Not fine dining, but good solid food in an area where that can be hard to find.
