Biegal on Brick Lane Review
Went today after reading about it on this board. This would not be a destination place if in NY (which is where I am from), however, if you are craving a taste of the big apple, this is worth a trip. Other than the english accent, I could swear I was on the lower east side.
For the food...the bagel was pretty good. Well done like I like it on the outside, and a bit chewy on the inside. Interesting that they only have plain. I had the salt beef, which was ok, quite fatty (I like fat, but this was too much), but again a good reminder of home. The best part of the sandwich was the mustard. I love spicy english mustard. I also got an onion platzel (the same as a bialy). That was very good also. On a return visit, I would probably get the salt beef on the platzel. Let me know any other nostalgic good places like this one. Thanks.
Also, where can a I find good meat samosa?
Have you tried Carmelli's bakery at Golder's Green? I'm from NY, too, and probably wouldn't rave about this place any more than the bagels at Brick Lane but the cake has a familiar look to it. :-) If the mustard is better than the bagel... all I can say is oy. But after all, you can't get Marks & Spencer's food in Manhattan and here we are.
