Need Special 50th Birthday Rest. in Sherman Oaks/West Valley

My very good friend is celebrating his 50th b'day soon. My other friend and I are planning to take him out for a special lunch on a Saturday, but he hates to stray too far from his comfort zone. We know he likes Italian, other than that his culinary tastes are sadly limited. Are there any great places you'd recommend? We do need a full bar for the old geezer. Thanks!

I really like Il Tiramisu on Ventura & Woodman. They definately serve lunch and the food is really good. Great service and I am pretty sure they have a bar, definately have wine.

Max is not open for lunch any day, and differing views of Il Tiramisu do exist - mine for example as I won't step foot in the place and I can walk to it in five minutes.
Good Valley Italian restaurant, almost an oxymoron.
Any way, Ca del sole at 4100 Cahuenga is very nice, yet I am not positive whether even they are open for a Saturday lunch. Great patio space, good booze, and good enough food, yet locationally not within your parameters, meaning at the base of the Universal Studios hill.

wow, that is a pretty strong statement on Il Tiramisu, especially since if you look at the reviews on this site they are all mostly positive.

I find it to be a very nice, semi-casual place with good food. And the $5 corkage is a nice plus. Its definately worth a try.

I think of Tiramisu as similar to Macaroni Grill or Maggiano's or buco di burpo, etc. in food quality. However, the people there are very nice, and that always helps make an evening more enjoyable.

For a special occasion lunch with full bar, I would probably go to Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks. It's not Italian, but the food will satisfy most people with limited food choices. www.cafebizou.com

Another possibility is Rive Gauche. The food is just okay, but the space is nice and it definitely has a full bar. I believe it is open for lunch on Saturday.
