There are a couple of places right around there that are decent. There's a Greek diner/coffeeshop on the corner of 28th and 7th that has good food--especially their egg/lemon soup. There's also an Indian place on 29th between 7th and 8th on the north side of the street that I like. There are 2 Japanese places around there--1 on 28th and 1 on 29th, both between 6th and 7th but closer to 7th. They are pretty good.

I moved into the neighborhood relatively recently, and while yes, there are TONS of places to eat, I haven't found very many inexpensive solid places. Most of the restos there are overpriced for the quality of food they serve. That said, for QUICK and cheap(er) bites, there are a bunch of Thai places (Song Kran on 8th and Pongsri are right by FIT), Burritoville if you must, a bunch of diners (though I haven't tried many of them out), Kofoo on 8th (for Korean mandoo, it looks like), Brown Cafe (?) right next door, and it looks like Burgers & Cupcakes is opening up on 23rd, right off 8th. There's F&B Gudt Food right there too, for variations on hot dogs and random other things, it looks like.
