Restaurant between southwest SF and Daly City

ISO a place for dinner for approximately 25 people in between southwest SF and Daly City (specifically between St. Thomas More Church and Duggan's Mortuary). Does not need to be gourmet/chowhound-ish. We're going to Joe's of Westlake the next day, so another recommendation would be great. TIA

  1. What about Boulevard Cafe?

That's right in the same area.

    1. There's the Boulevard restaurant on the south side of John Daly Blvd. just east of Westlake shopping center. (by no stretch of the imagination to ever be confused with the Boulevard restaurant in SF - heh). This one used to be Lyon's and re-opened, completely different, new name/new owners about a year ago. Well, they got a whole cool (chilly?) new look, a kinda updated large menu with as many choices as Joe's - but more 21st century. I dunno. They try to bill themselves as sophisticated, but I would just give it a "B minus" grade. Really, it is on a par with Joe's in terms of quality - pretty consistent, pretty OK. I guess I prefer the warm 50's feel of Joe's, purely for personal luddite reasons.

But, if I were to choose for you purely on the basis of a high level of chowishness though, I would steer you to Dim Sum King in a strip mall off the Great Highway (far west side) of DC a few minutes south of John Daly Blvd. You order everything off the menu so you don't have to wait for a cart - everything is wonderful. Not just dim sum - a big Chinese menu. They get an "A minus" But you may or may not be able to get reservations there. Try calling in advance - it gets mobbed.

The advantage of Boulevard Cafe is that they do have a back area that they can kind of close off (accordian wall thing) for large parties. And they do have a full bar w/ cocktails.
I too would give them a B, but they have a menu that can cover most everybody.

Now that you mention it, Joe's also has a separate back room where they accomodate parties. We had a birthday party there a few years ago and they were wonderful - it was quite private. The food was really good and the service was exemplary. The space would certainly hold 25 people.

      2. We ended up going to Boulevard Cafe and everyone was pleased with the service. Seems that the best items to order there are burgers, fish & chips, mac & cheese, etc. People that ordered the chicken piccata were disappointed. Food overall is at or slightly above Joe's.
