$19 fish fry dinner at mermaid inn?

The Mermaid Inn Fish Fry
Every Wednesday in October, The Mermaid Inn will be hosting an old-fashioned fish fry, complete with all the fixins. For just $19, Chef Mike Price will be frying up fresh filets of Atlantic Cod and serving it alongside spiced hushpuppies, grilled autumn corn on the cob, coleslaw and honey butter. And no fish fry would be complete without ice-cold beer, and so The Mermaid will be offering $2 "classic" beers, including Pabst Blue Ribbon, Old Milwaukee and Schlitz. The Mermaid Inn is located at 96 Second Avenue, between 5th and 6th Streets, 212-674-5870.

  1. Haven't been on Wed., but ordered the fish fry special (as described) on Thurs. last week. It was fine - fresh fish fried in nice, crispy batter. The corn was acceptable given that it's post-season. I'd say it's a nice basket of fish and a variation on chips, but not a steal at $19.

    1. I went last Wed. Fish was good--fresh and nicely battered--but I wish that I'd had some tartar sauce to eat it with (we got some sort of aioli after asking for it). Hush puppies, which I was really looking forward too, were too small and over-spiced for my taste. Cole slaw was fine, and I really like the corn (mine was nice and crispy). I wouldn't go back, but I thought it was a fun outting, and you get the delicious chocolate pudding at the end of the meal for free.
