Larchmont Village Ideas? Thoughts on La Luna?

I am meeting a friend for dinner tomorrow and we decided that Larchmont is the half-way point for us. I have been to Prado and La Bottega and although I enjoy both we want to go somewhere new.

Has anyone recently been to La Luna? I have heard good things but wasn't able to find much when searching here. Any other favorites?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Girasole, hands down. Just great and reasonably priced:

    2251/2 N. Larchmont Blvd.
    Los Angeles, 90004 (323) 464-6978

    Cross Street: Beverly Blvd.
    Neighborhood: Koreatown & Mid Wilshire
    Type: Italian
    Hours: Wed-Fri 12pm-3pm
    Tue-Sat 5:30pm-10:30pm

    1. I you pick carefully, La Luna can offer some good stuff. Some of their pastas are excellent(keep it simple) and their salads are big enough for two to share. In addition, if it is not too busy, they can make a really good pizza!!(at least to this Roman boy!) I find the staff to be friendly and professional and there is a comfort level here not found at Girasole(for me...just OK) or La Buca(good gnocchi and pastas...but has become too popular and is on the decline in my opinion!)

any particular pasta that you recommend? I have heard the seafood pasta is great.

Their strozzapretti with peas and mushrooms is one of my favorites...the pasta has a good "chew" and it is not oversauced like in most Italian restaurants in the U.S....Ask if the clams are good...if they are, their spaghetti alle vongole is terrific. Avoid the risotto and the pasta with vegetables...both are unfortunate attempts at "California" style Italian. The staff is very helpful and will mix and match pastas and sauces...and do "off the menu" sauces as well!
