Fresh yeast in Toronto

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a place that sells fresh (bakers' compressed) yeast. All I can find at stores are either instant yeast or active yeast.

Does any know of anywhere? I would prefer places close to Mississauga. Or anywhere in the GTA would be fine.

Hi,

I have found Fresh Yeast at Starsky's in Mississauga. They are at Winston Churchill and Dundas. Actually, just a little west of Winston Churchill near Costco.

I get mine from Lady York on Dufferin south of Lawrence. They sell them in 80-100 gram cubes.

If you are familiar with any of the Polish delis in Mississauga, or Polish bakeries, they always have fresh yeast cakes for sale. If you don't see them, ask for them.

Dixie and Burnhamthorpe is a good place to try, as well as the Karpaty bakeries (Dundas/Confederation) and Bristol/Britannia.

Anna, I have actually gone to Karpaty bakeries to get my fresh yeast. They are selling it for 99 cents per small block, perfect for my baking needs! Thanks very much!
