Chicago Dog @ Hot Dog City in Coddingtown Center (Santa Rosa)
Today's lunch was a Chicago dog, $3.95, at the mall. Previously I'd tried the location downtown, and I found my chili dog report laminated in plastic and posted outside the Coddingtown Center location.
The Chicago dog here is pretty much textbook,
)featuring a natural casing dog, slice of dill pickle, neon green pickle relish, chopped onions, sliced tomatoes (nice and ripe!), mustard, and sport peppers. But no poppy seed bun. The fragrance of the celery salt and the freshly chopped sweet onions was amazing and tasted even better.
I had this with the Thomas Kemper rootbeer on tap, $2.25, served in a big frosty mug. The server is careful to tilt the mug, then top it off with a nice head of creamy foam. She also holds it by the handle and the bottom to not leave any fingerprints on the mug. Classy, especially for a fast food joint.

I forgot to post months ago when I went to the downtown Santa Rosa Hot Dog City to try the Chicago dog you had talked about. It was incredibly spicy, very salty, and amazingly delicious. I had never experienced such a unique flavor combination in my life, having never been to Chicago before. On that day, the dog itself didn't have as much snap as I might have wanted, but I think it was just a slow day, as I was the only one there. I haven't gone back since then because there are still other places I've been meaning to try in downtown SR, but for a quick snack, I would go back to Hot Dog City in a heartbeat. Thanks for the rec, Melanie!
