Pearl Court

I've heard about the take-out set meal at PC and last night decided to try it out. Four items with rice and soup. So, so awesome and not expensive. Just like the dimsum there.

But am I the only one who gets indifferent service there?

I don't read chinese and asked the waiter to translate, after asking about the set menu which only comes in chinese, not part of their regular take-out menu. So he tells me. I quickly decide and fast at lightening he demands the amount and barks 'in thrity minutes!' WTF? And I find going at brunchtime upstairs the waiters tends to be a little haughty, never mind indifferent which is what I'm used to at chinese restaurants.

Anyone else with this experience?

I'll have to try Soon Foon Tai so it can become my default Gerrard/Broadview go-to spot, if I am to believe the raves on this board.

As much as I appreciate the food at PC I appreciate being treated well (I'll even take indifferent) more. My guess is that the place is riding on their good rep from way too long ago, as can be read on the very stale quotes they print on their menus.

i haven't been there in a couple of years but i remember going to dimsum and dinner there with my family. it was difficult to get the staff's attention and they were very brisk. i remember one time my grandfather was asking for a take out box in chinese and the lady just kept on walking. She did hear us, but she didn't bother to stop to indicate to us that she did hear the request. later on the same lady comes back and just tosses the box with the bag in front of my grandfather and walks away.
i remember thinking "how rude" esp to an elderly man with a walker, since then i have not returned. it's unfortunate that the rest's decent food is ruined by their continuing lack of customer service.
