Sansei in Waikiki Marriott--should I hold out for Maui?

What are your experiences? I'm visiting Oahu (and not Maui) on my next trip to Hawaii and wondered if I should use my limited time to dine elsewhere (where?) and wait to eat at Sansei when I do visit Maui. I'm looking for fresh fish (sushi, sashimi, etc.) and great preparation and service. Can Sansei in Waikiki deliver?

  1. BTW, I am not visiting Maui anytime soon, so should I go anyway?

    1. Believe it or not, there's no really great sushi in Hawaii - esp. on Maui. The Oahu Sansei has better sushi (pick carefully after eyeing the fish - the maguro was very anemic looking when we were there, so steered clear & everything else was pretty good). I thought the service was pretty good - much better than elsewhere in the restaurant. Don't go Kapalua for sushi - definitely the weak link in their offerings. Having said that about sushi, you will find other ahi preps all over Oahu, most of which are very good.

      1. Out by the airport on Oahu is a small place called Mitch's. It has some of the best sushi I have ever had. (there was a long thread about it a few months ago on this board.)Superb, just supeb
