I enjoyed reading this article and thought some of you might enjoy it too. http://www.slate.com/id/2150499/?nav=navoa

The article contains a link to another article that is a "Spring 2005 Shanghai Xiao Long Bao Survey". http://www.liaoyusheng.com/archives/f...

Cheers, Ken

I found liaoyusheng's blog very useful when I did my own XLB survey last May, especially for the correct location of Jia Jia Tang Bao (which another blogger had mis-located). One of the restaurants he mentioned, Weng Restaurant, however, had either closed or moved by the time I went looking for it. Jia Jia Tang Bao apparently has also moved since I went there, because the neighborhood was being razed. There's information buried in one of the threads below on the likely current location of Jia Jia, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I am familiar with the restaurant that elicited the author's rage, and would only suggest that he was not very clever about choosing where to order his dumplings. I would never go to a Italian deli and order a pastrami sandwich, since I know it won't be what I'm looking for. Simiarly ordering xiao long bao at a DC pan-Asian restaurant is bound to be a mistake.
