Chicago Marathon: AFTER PARTY recommend
I am a born-and-raised Chicagoan who has lived in NYC for 15 years, but am running the Chicago Marathon on SUNDAY Oct 22.
I was planning on rewarding myself afterwards with a meal at Wishbone (an old favorite, from when they were a little place near Wicker Park), but just discovered that my required times and day don't work. They are closed. I am seeking recommendations for a place that meets the following criteria:
Can handle a party of 8 people
Open on Sunday
Serves all day on Sunday (we'll be there around 3:30 or 4)
Good food (of course! <smile>)
Somewhere between Navy Pier and Millenium Park, not too far West
(We do have a van for transportation!)
Not too expensive... $$
THANK YOU for your help!!!
There are so many good restaurants in Greektown...decisions decisions! Given your situation(post-race eats), I recommend Greek Islands(Halsted/Adams Sts). They serve up authentic greek fare in a casual atmosphere. You can read reviews, if you'd like, on metromix here:
In fact, you'll run by it right after you hit the halfway point in the race :)
Here are a few ideas that match up, based on your location request...
Pizano's Pizza(great buttercrust thin crust pizza!)
61 E. Madison Street
Chicago, IL 60657
While I know that chain restaurants aren't the best that Chicago has to offer, there are a few in the area that will be able to accomodate your group...Big Bowl, PF Changs, Buca di Beppo, and Grand Lux Cafe(Cheesecake Factory's sister restaurant).
If you're willing to head a mile or 2 west of downtown, Greektown is a great part of town to dine! They offer free valet parking at all restaurants and some offer a family style dining option. If you want more info on where to go in Greektown, just let me know and I'll be happy to pass it along!
Enjoy...and good luck in the race!
How about Bandera on Michigan Avenue? Don't know what kind of food you are looking for but the menu at Bandera is pretty simple. Roasted chicken, burgers, steaks, grilled fish. Good skillet cornbread and peanut coleslaw. Not expensive but not cheap eats either. I think it's good value for money. We've always had excellent, unobtrusive service for dinner. One of my favorites.
Here is a link to Metromix for more info:
How about Cafe Iberico for Tapas? That is always fun and festive with a larger group. They are open 11-11 on Sunday and will take reservations for parties of 6 or more. It is not really between Navy Pier and Millenium Park, but it is not that far out of the way, and meets your other requirements.
