Frausto's Mexican restaurant/Guadalajara food in Berkeley

Has anyone been? I think they advertised rotisseried chickens?

Huh, apparently I was misordering all those years. Good to know if I find myself back in that neck of the woods.

I know; almost every time I was there I was the only patron. But it's been there for a long time (10, 15 years, maybe?). Odd.

that wasn't my experience, the place actually did a pretty good lunch business when I was there. And really, the albondigas were worth a stop in now and then.

I tried it several times just because of the convenience factor, but I'm not sure why. Everything tasted pretty mediocre and really heavy and blah. The torta ahogada is almost inedible. On top of that, I've never seen more than a couple of the tables occupied. Hmmm...

It's on the corner of Shattuck & Dwight. I haven't been in a couple of years, but I used to work there & went a handful of times. It ranged from bad to mediocre (I kept going because it was convenient & I so badly wanted it to be good). Burritos, tacos, etc. were always boring, but better than the chicken which was underseasoned & overcooked.

For the most part, I agree that it was mediocre, but the albondigas were pretty good, and a regular menu item, so when I worked in Berkeley I used to go there sometimes for my fix....service can be slow.
