Captain Linnell's in Orleans (Cheesy & Old School or Classic & A Sure Thing?)

The Captain comes highly recommended but reviewing their website it looks a bit old school. Are there any other hip, mid- top - range places that are romantic?

Alternatively, is there something fun and more lively, but has great food.

Yes, I know the off season has started, so any tips are greatly appreciated.

I had my wedding reception at Captain Linnell so my husband and I go there every year for sentimental reasons. We have been married 16 years and the menu has changed ONLY slightly in those years. That being said, the food is consistently good if not adventurous. I have always enjoyed my meal (without being wowed by anything)We are usually the youngest patrons there by 20 years or so! Abba is great, Brewster Fish House also recommended, Buca's in Harwich is very good Italian.

I haven't eaten at the Captain Linell House for 5 or 6 years but back then it was very good without being adventurous or surprising. It is (or was) definitely better than the "colonial inn" or "pillar house" type restaurants that are too common in quaint New England towns. (I remember stopping at some such place in Lee, Mass., a couple of years ago that felt like a church basement, with food that wasn't much better than the typical potluck.)

Highly recommend Abba, open year round. Creative, great food. Waiter was hip, knowledgeable.

Thanks for the link. Seems like you touched on what we're looking for... how about for the second night. Hip, good, but a bit less pricey?
