Where can I get really good COFFEE CAKE?

ipsedixit Oct 12, 2006 05:56 PM

I just had a terrible version at Marstons in Pasadena, dry, crumbly and with a strong aftertaste of never-cleaned ashtray.

So, now my tastebuds have been piqued and I need a good (or at least a better) version of Coffee Cake.

Recs?

Thanks much.

Actually Whole Foods' bakery makes a decent coffee cake.

"Coffee cake" covers a broad spectrum. I'm a big fan of sour cream coffee cake. Of all places, House of Pies, Vermont and Franklin, makes a good one.

Sorry, what do you mean by coffee cake? Crumb cake? Danish? Please 'splain.

Not sure what you prefer, style wise, but I find the Corner Bakery's version compelling. If you are getting it by the slice, be sure they cut a fresh one for you. It's on Lake, by Macy's.

I had an excellent piece of coffee cake at Europane a while back. I don't know if it's in their regulation rotation, but if you come across it, definitely get it.
