Lazy Cabbage Rolls: Frozen & thawed ilo Boiled ?

vicki_vale Oct 11, 2006 09:27 PM

For cabbage roll preparation, I read a suggestion to freeze the entire cabbage and then let it thaw, to break down the leaves just enough to peel them. Then the leaves are cool to the touch and easy to handle.

Has anyone really tried the freezer method with success, instead of blanching the head in a giant pot of boiling water?

I nuke the cabbage - whole head, about 7 - 10 min. Works just fine.

I've done this before. Just stick the cabbage in the freezer when you get home from the store. Take it out the night before and let it thaw overnight. Works great.

I always do this. Works great. The only downside is that the thawing head is kind of smelly.

Yep, I did this for the first time just recently. Worked wonderfully!!! What a revelation.
