FYI: Loose Leaf on 6th and Hope
I just got back from my first lunch at Loose Leaf at 6th and Hope downtown and it was great! It's a build your own salad place with actually fresh produce and they have quite a few dressing and topping options on the healthy/low calorie side. I know I'm always on the hunt for healthy lunch options that actually taste good, so I hope any of you who work downtown will give it a shot when you're in the mood for a great salad. Enjoy!
This is how my exploratory, look-see, pick-up a menu visit to Loose Leave (LL) went:
The times were not posted on LL’s door or menu so I approached the counter and asked the guy behind the counter wearing what appears to be mechanic jumpsuit (GBCWWA2BMJS): How late are you open?
GBCWWA2BMJS: uh, I think between, ummm, 6 or 7...?
Me: Between six or seven ... ? What’s the determining factor?
Me: What’s the determining factor on when you close?
GBCWWA2BMJS: I don’t know.
Me: (I, of course, refuse to give up) I just want to know what time you close. Is there someone you can ask?
Me: (Now, I MUST know) I would like to know what are your hours?
GBCWWA2BMJS: I get off at 5PM.
Me: No, not YOUR hours ... what time does this restaurant open and close?
GBCWWA2BMJS: I don’t know, I leave at 5PM.
Me: I understand that you leave at 5PM; that is not what I am asking. The hours of this place are not posted on the door nor are they printed on this menu (held LL menu up in front of me and waived it). Please ask your manager or whoever else is here with you: What time does LL open and what time does it close?
GBCWWA2BMJS: (went into the back area and came back) told me what the hours were.
Me: Thank you.
I turned around and walked out the door, putting the menu back in the holder as I left.
FWIW, a friend of mine works a couple blocks away and her office orders in from somewhere every day and has had salads from Loose Leaf and tried to recommended it to me until I told her the above. I’ll wait about six months or so and if LL is still there I might give it a try.
I went to Loose Leaf for the first time a month ago and have eaten there between 3-4 days each week. These guys make the best salad dressing, I love the Basil Herb, Cesaer, Garlic Ranch and Mixed Wine Vinagrette. One of my friends loves the fat-free cucumber mint. I love going there for lunch because you can pick whatever ingredients you want for your salad including hearts of palm which post places don't carry. Hands down the best salad in LA, by far. Their soups are delicious too, I love the Watercrest. Definitely worth a try.
