HOU: any good food near West Montgomery and North Shepherd? Holes-in-the-wall? Breakfast?

Any kind of food is fine, as long as it's good and it's not a chain.

Thanks,
Josh

That’s not my part of town and I seldom go out for breakfast but here’s what I can think of:

You’re close to the best bbq in town - Williams Smokehouse – west on Tidwell to Ella/Wheatley, north on Wheatley just a few blocks. Tu-Sat only. Best is ribs and brisket and home-made desserts.

Frenchy’s Creole Fried Chicken has a place now on W. Little York. Long time Houston favorite for spicy fried chicken and other creole dishes. Last couple of times I’ve been, it’s been very greasy, which it shouldn’t be, but I don’t know if I just caught them on a couple of bad days.. Creole sausage po-boy and greens are always good, too; they make their own chaurice.

I think Cajun Town Café on W. Little York is one I’ve heard good things about but I’ve never been.

Towards town, on Patton just east of 45 is an outpost of Taqueria Laredo - good breakfast tacos.

On Crosstimbers at Yale, BBQ Inn, old-time home cooking since the 40s, Tu thru Sat only, lunch and dinner. Best is fried shrimp but many also rave about the fried chicken (skillet fried when you order it so allow extra time) and Chicken Fried Steak. I’ve never actually tried the bbq.

Airline Drive inside Loop 610 - taco truck in the parking lot toward the back - the name escapes me. Across the parking lot Triple A Diner - like BBQ Inn but a little more run down; veggies are a good choice. M-F only, I think for Triple-A and I think they’re open for breakfast.

Across the street Tampico - great seafood place; I don’t know what it’s like during the day.
